Finding a dating site that works for you is so crucial right now. A recent Pew Research survey found that 53% of online dating app users in the US have used dating apps more during the pandemic. A lot of people are only looking online because of all the social distancing and that makes relying on meeting people in public to be a frustrating proposition, especially for guys.
The problem is, even doing that much nowadays is a full-time job in itself. For every legit hookup site out there, there are a dozen more filled with bots and scams that will happily take your money and give you nothing in return. And on the surface, they all look more or less the same.
That’s why we love getting underneath the surface to find out if a website really does everything it promises to. We sort the good from the bad — and let you know whenever we’ve found a diamond in the rough or a scam to stay away from at all costs.
After that initial test is done, I’ll go back in and fill out my profile information properly, including adding a few photos. Then, I’ll spend a month or so using the site as if it were my own personal dating profile. I’ll try out the features of the site, message women and try to set up as many dates as possible. This includes setting up a paid membership since, on most sites, there isn’t a lot you can do without one.
By the time I’m finished, I usually have a pretty good idea of the website — whether it’s legit or a scam, whether it’s possible to meet some real women there and whether it’s worth recommending. For better or worse, I take those experiences and turn them into a comprehensive review, letting you know which sites are worth your time and money and which ones you should stay far away from.
To bring our readers a comprehensive list of the Best Hookup Apps including WildMeets, every HeartInsider writer adheres strict and verifiable guidelines. Unlike other dating sites, our reviews are always up-to-date and sourced by local experts–not rehashes of stuff you can find elsewhere.

Hey there! I’m Jack Hughes, a seasoned Dating Expert and your go-to guy at Heart Insider. I’m here to share with you my deep dive into the world of online dating, particularly my experience with WildMeets. Trust me, I’ve been where you are — a bit of a self-proclaimed nerd back in the day, but I’ve turned my dating life around through a lot of hard work and personal experimentation. That’s why I believe my insights can be especially useful to you.
Let’s talk about WildMeets. You’re probably wondering if this less-known site is a hidden gem or just another drop in the ocean of dating platforms. I get it. Online dating can be a rollercoaster — it can lead you to exciting flings, meaningful relationships, or, let’s be honest, some pretty weird situations. And with the current state of the world, online dating has become more crucial than ever.
I’ve put WildMeets through its paces, not just skimming the surface but really diving deep. I started with a blank profile to see the kind of attention it attracts, then fleshed it out to see how real interactions play out. I’ve spent weeks, even months, using it like it’s my personal dating profile, including opting for a paid membership, because let’s face it, you can’t really judge a dating site’s full potential without dipping into its premium features.
So, what’s my verdict on WildMeets? I’ll give you the unfiltered truth, from its user interface, the quality of profiles, to the authenticity of interactions. Plus, I’ll throw in a comparison with the titan of hookup sites, AFF, to give you a clear perspective. Whether you’re looking for a casual hook-up or something more, I’m here to guide you through the labyrinth of online dating. Let’s dive in and find out if WildMeets is your ticket to dating success or a path best avoided.

The best place to start is with an overview of the site. I like to compare new websites to AFF (which you can try for free yourself) because it’s consistently the most reliable hookup website I’ve used (and seems to be for most guys).

I’ve reviewed a lot of websites — some good, a lot more bad. I try not to form an opinion based on first impressions alone, which can sometimes be misleading. But I still have a pretty good sense of when a site isn’t going to turn out to be worth my time.
Sometimes it’s a feature or payment model that sends up red flags, sometimes it’s obviously fake members. And sometimes, it’s the fact that a website is literally identical to one I’ve already used.
According to Megan Ellis, a tech expert at Make Use Of, “Another reason dating apps stick to a similar formula (such as using location and traits in common) is because the science behind what makes a successful relationship is still being studied. Some dating websites may use a certain algorithm, but there’s no sure-fire recipe for a good outcome for a match.”
But the minute I loaded up the WildMeets homepage, I was struck with a sense of deja vu. Sure, the color scheme and background image were different, but everything else about the WildMeets website was identical to so many other sites we’ve reviewed before. Not just the signup form — the landing page, search function, messaging system and terms and conditions of WildMeets were all the same.
It wasn’t a case of using a similar algorithm or formula. I was looking at a clone of other sites I have reviewed before!
And, sadly, it didn’t stop there.
When we reviewed HelloHotties, we mentioned its references to “group companies” throughout its terms and conditions. Specifically, the fact that the company reuses profiles and members across its network, which is exactly what we found here. It quickly turned out that the similarities between HelloHotties and WildMeets didn’t end at the site design — even the members were the same.
If you combine that with the high volume of fake and spam messages, the overwhelming number of low quality or bare profiles, and blatant scare tactics like time-limited access to messages, it all adds up to a site I wouldn’t feel comfortable spending money on.
One of the most amusing things to me about reviewing WildMeets was the difference between the exterior of the website and the reality of the member experience. An extensive, if generic, rundown of the site on the homepage makes a lot of big claims about online dating in general and WildMeets in particular.
But the funniest had to be its core infographic, in black and white, promising an “extensive user base,” “real people,” and “detailed profiles,” when the lack of all of those things were some of my biggest complaints.
An extensive user base? I suppose, if you’re willing to factor in the profiles imported from other websites. Real people? Maybe one person I found on WildMeets seemed real and it had some of the most obviously fake messages I’ve received in my time using hookup sites. And detailed profiles? Well, that one’s just laughable.
What is there to say about WildMeets I haven’t already said about HelloHotties? I found no real women, had no real conversations and walked away from my experience with no expectation whatsoever that using the site could ever lead to a genuine hookup. Suffice it to say, this isn’t one we’re recommending.
Now contrast this with AFF, a site we’ve used for years and never get tired of. It’s been around for over a decade and it remains one of the best sites out there for finding hookups. It’s full of real human beings, not just bots posing as hot women. And the best part? You’re extremely likely to get replies from people on the site even if you’re new to hookup sites.

“this is gonna sound crazy but this site changed my life and motivated me to finally reach my weight loss goal. i created an account in early 2021. long story but some that i met here, and also some that i met THRU the people that were on here, were life changing. although it didnt work out the way i wanted, it inspired me to put my account to the side, lose 50 lbs, and then in other places (not aff), i found what was meant for me. so i thank you aff- you were the rocket i needed for lift off.”

“Been on there off and on 10 or so Years. Been to SEVERAL meets and parties! I’ve made tons of fun friends and have more fun clubbing and swinging with them then any other peer genre! Too many nasty old, fat, desperate mean with high expectations. True sex addicts and swingers love this site and it works well for them.”
I have to be honest, it was hard to find things to like about WildMeets.
As I found on HelloHotties, user profiles on Wild Meets leave very little room for personal information. You can view users’ photos and some basic information — if you’re a paid member and if they’ve bothered to fill it out, which most women hadn’t.
Of all the profiles I browsed on Wild Meets — and it was a lot — I found a single woman who had anything personal to say about herself. I’m not going to come right out and say the rest were fakes created by Wild Meets to lure in paying members because that’s a hard thing to prove. But the empty profiles, identical statements and dozens of robotic messages I received sure made it easy for me to walk away with that impression.

The design of WildMeets was okay. It was exactly the same as its sister sites with a slightly different color scheme, so the good and bad of those sites still apply here. The design was more attractive than a lot of similar sites, but ruined by constant pop-ups and way too many ads.
Not surprisingly, my inbox on WildMeets was flooded with spam messages in the first few days after account creation. I ended up with a few dozen messages before I’d added anything to my profile about who I was, what I looked like or what kind of woman I was looking for.
Bizarrely, I got a lot of initial messages but not a single response to any of mine, even if I was replying to someone who’d messaged me first. Not that I’m owed a reply, obviously, but I’ve found that when this kind of behavior happens on a large scale across the whole site, it’s often likely a result of site-automated messages being sent out.
At best, I received a lot of messages written in slightly dodgy English. At worst, I received identical, obvious copy-and-paste messages from multiple “women.” There are a lot of websites out there that use automatically generated messages to keep members interested, but most of them try a lot harder than this.
You can do very little with a free membership, which is unfortunate but not surprising. You can create a profile and view the search page, but you can’t see member profiles beyond a thumbnail of information. You can receive but not send messages, which is pretty standard. Not so standard is the scare feature WildMeets shares with sister site HelloHotties, which puts a timer on all messages and claims to delete them if you don’t respond in an hour.
Needless to say, these cheap scare tactics are not standard on any reputable dating site and it says a lot about how hard WildMeets is trying to force members into a paid subscription.
I hate seeing advertisements on dating sites. Not just because they’re intrusive — which the ones on Wild Meets are — but because the more legit sites don’t need them, so they’re always a bit of a red flag. Wild Meets has ads on every page, from banner ads to pop-ups to what look like internal text links that will actually take you to an affiliate site. Wild Meets probably has more ads than I’ve ever seen on a hookup site and that’s saying something.
WildMeets recurring memberships are available on a one-month or three-month basis. WildMeets also offers paid trial membership that will automatically convert to monthly memberships at the end of the trial period, so be wary if you choose this option.
One day $0.99
One week $9.99
One month $38.59/month
Three months $21.64/month ($64.92)

For a great look into what women are experiencing in a casual relationship, head on over to Women’s Health. They have a great article titled “Casual Dating May Be The Best Thing For Your Love Life—But Only If You Follow These Rules”. Here’s some great insights from the article:
“Casual dating, in this day and age, is not as clear cut as it used to be,” says Yumnah Syed-Swift, LCSW, a licensed therapist and owner of Sufiyana Counseling Services. “Some people consider casual dating to include dating multiple people without the intention of settling down into a relationship. Others consider it an agreed-upon boundary [against] ‘catching feelings.’”
Simply, there’s no “magic formula on how much or how little you should see someone,” says Syed-Swift. She insists that it comes down to your intuition. And, according to Syed-Swift, polyamorous circles have a term for how often these people will come into your life: “A comet”.
According to Lindsey Metselaar, a relationship expert specializing in millennial dating and the host of the We Met at Acme podcast. “Make it clear that you’re not looking for something serious from the beginning,” says Metselaar. “The other person then has the opportunity to say they aren’t interested in that, or to think it over and decide that they are.”
“You’ll want to have regular conversations to make sure staying casual still feels good to all partners, and ensure no unspoken expectations are creeping in.”
“Compromising on your own needs and boundaries isn’t sustainable, and can lead to drama and hurt feelings all around.”
Safety can mean lots of things, including “sharing locations and information with friends and family, not letting a date pick you up at your home, and practicing safe sex if a date gets to that point,” says Syed-Swift.
