Online dating is great because it gives us all a certain level of anonymity. We’re free to explore our options without having to really put ourselves out there too much. In this Quiver review, we’re going to look at an example of that, aimed mostly at swingers. In their words, “The hottest local swinger personals and lifestyle club.”
Quality Hookup Apps Normal Guys Actually Do Well Using According To Dating Experts
If you’re like most guys, Quiver is going to be a big waste of time. If you haven’t been getting good results online dating the biggest problem is probably the app you’re using. You need to try out one or two of the top apps for regular guys when it comes to hookup results:
Site | Our Experience | Our Rating | Free Trial Link |
---|---|---|---|
Best Hookup Site Right Now | Experience Highlights
| 9.5 | Try AFF For Free |
Great If You're Handsome | Tinder Highlights

We tend to think of online dating as only being options like Tinder and eHarmony. In reality though, there are so many more options available to all of us. From sexual preference to kinks, religion, race and so much more, there are niche options out there for everyone.
As a sex-positive person myself, I’m happy to see online dating continue to expand. In the case of Quiver, it’s all about creating a safe space to explore those fantasies. Mostly focused on swingers, it’s an “anything goes” kind of site — within the confines of the law, of course.
Clearly, I’m a fan of this type of website but what we’re really doing here is talking about my experience on Quiver. Before I get into the details, let’s take a look at the process I use for all my dating app reviews.
I’ll start out with a free profile, entering only the mandatory fields and just letting it sit for a couple of days. No logging in, no looking around, just leaving my blank profile. I want to see if I’m going to get a bunch of messages from “women” who seem desperate to talk to me. This is a very common thing to see on fake dating sites.
After that, I’ll complete my profile. Photos, bio, all the information it allows me to put in there. I’m creating a legitimate profile and aiming to see how many dates I can set up with a free account in a one- to two-week window.
Finally, it’s time to move onto the paid version of the app or website. Still aiming to set up real dates, it allows me to compare the experience of a free vs paid member. Were the premium benefits worth the money? Did I get more dates or interactions than a free member?
It’s a simple but time-consuming process aimed at one thing — a detailed, informative review. So, let’s talk about how things went on Quiver.
Before getting into the finer details, let’s start with an overview of the fundamentals that make a quality site. We’re also going to compare it against one of the biggest names in hookup dating sites in general, AFF.
With almost 105 million members and counting, they certainly make a strong point of comparison. One of the earlier brands in the world of online dating, they’ve grown a massive, active user base and tweaked their user experience over the years.

As you’ll see in most of my dating app reviews, these numbers alone tell most of the story. In the case of Quiver, it appears to be a perfectly legitimate website. Why the low scores if it’s not a scam? Great question.
One major hurdle for a dating site to get over is generating an active user base. As is true with most things in life, people want what people want. In other words, the very act of being popular makes it attractive to even more people. This grows the popularity further, brings in more people and the cycle continues.
The same goes for the other way around. If a site lacks active users, the end result is what I observed with Quiver. A decent volume of profiles but most of them sitting dormant for years.
Since there are almost no active users, new users create a profile, see that it’s dead and never come back. This just adds to the problem and so that cycle continues.
All in all, I had zero interactions on Quiver. Not a single one.
Each user’s profile shows you when they signed up and when they were last active (i.e. the last time they logged in). Of the 100+ profiles I looked at, the vast majority have been inactive for at least 2 years.
This is just one example of many, not a cherry-picked exception. If you’re going to try this site out for yourself, just make sure you check their “Last Active” date before bothering with anything else.
Quiver is a platform that’s available in a browser (Quiver.us) and app form. Functionality and user base are exactly the same, it’s just two different ways to access the same system. Both require your photos to be verified by their team before they’re visible on the app.
Honestly, it’s disappointing that Quiver is so quiet because it seems like a great site otherwise. One that I’d happily continue using. Users can post updates if they want to stay very active in the community. There are chat rooms and group conversations for local areas, events and kinks and the site works well.
Sadly though, as you can see below, an inactive user base renders all of these great features useless.
Take a look at the screenshot from the “groups” section below. With this feature, you can browse for and join groups that interest you. This particular group has 156 members, which suggests the site may have been active some time ago.
The fact that it’s the second group that shows up and it’s from Burning Man 2017 tells the story though.
The same is true in the chat functionality. There’s a default room for people that are new to the community which is an excellent idea. . . but it’s empty. There’s also an FAQ which would be great if it weren’t also empty.
You even have the ability to create your own room which, on an active site, would be perfect. You could set up educational events, parties or whatever you feel like and chat about it right there. What a shame there’s nobody to chat to.
Another great feature on this site is their travel plan function. If you know you’ll be traveling soon, you can choose to show up in that location ahead of time. Much like Tinder’s passport feature.
Especially helpful for making group plans, you can get comfortable with each other before you go anywhere. Like everything else on this site though, it’s a shame to see it wasted on inactive users.
If you’ve never been part of “the lifestyle” (swinging), it can be an intimidating prospect. So many questions, so much apprehension and all-around uncertainty.
Yet another thing Quiver gets right is making the site feel like a safe, welcoming environment. Right from the sign-up process, you’re asked a series of questions about your preferences and what you’re looking for.
Although a minor detail, it cements the idea that you’re in the right place if this is what you’re looking for. It’s okay to be a couple looking for other couples and you won’t be judged for it.
This same theme runs through the rest of the site too. It feels like a safe and anonymous environment. While you do need photo verification to really do anything here, that doesn’t mean you need to have a public profile photo. Only Quiver’s team will see your verification photo.
One frustration I come across with apps like Tinder is women using it to gain Instagram followers. It reeks of desperation on their end and it’s a waste of my limited swipes.
Quiver solves this problem by hiding your profile until you’ve been verified. As you can see below, my blank profile didn’t get me far. They have a clever system where the more of your profile you fill out, the more features you unlock.
The process is simple enough but still requires manual inspection on their end. This should do a great job of deterring spam accounts. For me, verification took about three hours.
A word of warning for those who plan to use the site though, you need to manually unhide your profile on completion. I submitted the verification photo, got approved and expected to start using the site properly. Instead, I had to manually enable my profile after being verified.
This isn’t a problem specific to Quiver but the lifestyle in general. As a very general rule, single men are more likely to actively seek some kind of group/sharing situation.
Combine this with the fact that, generally, couples are more likely to look for other couples or single women. It’s a bad balance that’s really nobody’s fault.
It’s the same way you’ll find it very difficult to enter a swingers club alone while single women are very welcome. As a single man, there’s just too much supply and not enough demand for us.
Unsurprisingly, this problem extends to Quiver as well. Most profiles I came across aren’t looking for single men. Below is a snippet of a very typical profile — the last line sums up exactly what I’m talking about.
The result was a grand total of zero conversations. I mean literally every single user within 50 miles of me that’s been active in the last six months. That meant looking at a lot of profiles and messaging just a handful but that’s exactly the problem.
Most users are very inactive and the others seem to have given up, much like I have. They’ve tried connecting with others, had no response from anywhere and moved on.
When I say active in the last six months, many of these have been inactive for three or four months. In fact, I only found one profile that was active in the last seven days.
Looking at that, it’s hardly surprising I didn’t get a response.
Quiver may have been a great swingers hookup site at one point. But sadly, I’ll never know how great it actually was. Maybe it was the AFF of their day but with one key difference: AFF is still full of active users today.
Now keep in mind that no matter the platform, single men just generally have a tougher time finding couples who are interested in them. But with the right platform, you can make that search easier thanks to the sheer number of users online. And that’s the beauty of AFF: no matter your kink, you matter your lifestyle, there are so many people on the site that you’re bound to find someone you’ll click with!
Try the AFF free trial today and you might just get lucky tonight!
To summarize, here’s what we liked and didn’t like about Quiver.
Before I wrap up the Quiver dating app review, I want to run through the most frequently asked questions. It’s a good opportunity to cover those final questions that might not have been answered in the review above.
